Why do I need to be at the clinic at least 15 minutes before my exam time?
It's necessary for you to arrive early in order to complete your paperwork and prepare for your exam.
What are imaging pre-screens?
Pre-screens are questions that are reviewed with a patient prior to an imaging study to make sure that an exam can be preformed safely and produce a good quality examination. Each imaging type and even specific exams may have their own pre-screens.
What is patient prep?
Many imaging studies require the patient to follow pre-exam instructions to optimize the quality of the imaging study and reduce adverse risks. The Preparation section of our web site provides comprehensive information for each of the most common exams performed at Cypress Women's Imaging.
About Results & Films
What are imaging results?
The value of imaging is incomplete until your referring physician receives a report describing your exam. This is a very important priority for our imaging centers. Your physician can also gain access to the images and reports electronically. It is very important to provide your results promptly to your referring physician. This assures you efficient and timely care. Routine reports are usually delivered the same day or next day, and the radiologist will call your physician immediately if necessary.
How can I get a copy of my medical records?
Your physician will receive a copy of your exam report and will discuss the results with you. Your physician can provide you with a copy of your exam report. Cypress Women's Imaging will retain original exam films and reports. You may obtain a copy of your medical record by writing to Cypress Women's Imaging via our corporate office at:
Wichita Radiological Group
551 N. Hillside, Suite 320
Wichita, KS 67214
In order for Wichita Radiological Group to disclose protected health information (PHI) to any individual and/or entity outside of normal treatment, payment, or health-care operations as defined by federal guidelines, a signed HIPAA Authorization Release form must be received from the patient or legal guardian.
How can I send previous films and reports to a new doctor?
With your written authorization, film copies, including mammograms, will be sent to your new physician. Your new physician's office can do this for you with your written authorization. You may also pick up your films. You will need to fill out a release form at that time. You may have your films permanently transferred to another facility or to your own custody. In either case, you will need to sign a release authorization.
Will I know the results of my exam before I leave?
Generally not. Your results are forwarded to your physician. It is very important for your physician to compare our conclusions with his or her clinical findings in order to present you with a complete diagnosis.
Can I have my images after they are done?
All images must remain as part of the permanent records of Cypress Women's Imaging. At any time, your physician may request your films for review. We strongly recommend patients keep ongoing records of where their exams are conducted to allow easy access to their records.
Can my images and results go to more than one physician for review?
Absolutely. We respect the desire of patients to seek second opinions in their care. Simply contact us with the name and address of the physician.
How long does Cypress Women's Imaging keep my records on file?
We maintain the images and reports from your exam(s) in accordance with state laws (in most cases, for a minimum of five to seven years).
Under the Uniform Health Care Information Act, you may request in writing to see, copy, and/or correct your reports and films. Written parental consent is required for the release of non-pregnancy related information of a minor child. We will not disclose your records to others unless you direct us in writing to do so or unless the law authorizes or compels us to do so. Depending on the nature of the request, copy charges and a waiting period may be applicable.
How will I get the results of my exam?
Your diagnostic imaging study will be carefully reviewed by a board-certified radiologist. A transcribed report will be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will discuss the results with you. When necessary, your physician may receive a phone call from one of our Radiologists regarding your results.
A note about mammography results: In April 1999, it became law that ALL patients receiving mammograms be informed by letter of the results of their mammogram examination(s) in layperson's terms. This letter is based on a medical report, which is forwarded to your health-care provider. If you have already received communication from your physician and/or responded to recommendations concerning this result, you should disregard the letter. If you have further questions concerning results and/recommendations, please contact your physician.
How will I find out about my breast biopsy results?
Radiology and pathology reports will be provided to your physician. Your physician will discuss your results and options with you. It is important to understand that the evaluation of the abnormality does not end with the biopsy. Clinical follow-up is essential for all patients. Depending on the results of the biopsy, other options may include follow-up mammography in six months, repeat core-needle breast biopsy, or surgical biopsy.

About Radiologists
What is a radiologist?
A radiologist is a medical doctor who has chosen to specialize in the field of imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. After completing an internship, a radiologist undergoes an additional four or more years of specialized training in medical imaging. The most important task of a radiologist is to interpret your procedure and combine that information with the clinical findings of your doctor. The radiologist evaluates the images and provides a report of the findings to your physician. The goal is to provide your physician with a clearer picture of what is happening inside your body.
Not all radiologists are the same. Cypress Women’s Imaging Radiologists are specialized in the areas of women's imaging and the diagnosis of breast cancer. They are all board certified doctors by the American Board of Radiology and are certified for breast imaging by the Food & Drug Administration and American College of Radiology.
Will the radiologist meet with me during my test?
Not always. Your primary contact will probably be with one of our technologists who will perform your exam. Some exams require the direct supervision of a radiologist, while others are performed completely by the technologist and reviewed afterwards by our radiologist. If you'd like to speak with our radiologist, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
Why is subspecialty expertise important?
Many of our Cypress Women's Imaging Radiologists sub-specialize in particular areas of imaging. This means that in addition to their completion of their radiology residency, they have completed additional training, such as a fellowship in a specific body part or disease type. Subspecialty training gives our radiologists a greater breadth and depth of knowledge that benefits our patients.
About Technologists
What is a technologist?
A Technologist is a person specially trained to operate the diagnostic imaging equipment and to position patients to achieve the clearest images possible. While Technologists are not medical doctors, they do work closely with Radiologists in reviewing patient histories, presenting current symptoms and preliminary films to the radiologist, and making sure all patients are as comfortable as possible.
Do technologists have special credentials?
Yes. Cypress Women's Imaging employs only registered technologists who specialize in a particular area (or modality) such as MRI, mammography, or Ultrasound.
